Range Information

Hobbs Island Shooting Range is a members-only shooting sports complex that offers complete beginners and advanced sharpshooters alike access to outdoor ranges from 25 yards to 380 yards, dedicated pistol bays, steel targets, and much more.  Our convenient location, just minutes away from the main city of Huntsville, makes it easy to get range time whenever you want.

Shooting Areas

25-50 Yard Static Range

There are over 20 short-range lanes available for use. All lanes have individual shooting benches, are cooled by fans, and have full access to Wi-Fi.

All levels of membership have access to these lanes, at no additional charge. Guest fees apply. During peak usage times, groups may be limited to one lane at a time.

100-380 Yard Static Range

There are five 100-yard lanes and 13 long-range lanes available for use. Long-range lanes allow for targets up to 380 yards. All lanes have individual shooting benches, are cooled by fans, and have full access to Wi-Fi.

All levels of membership have access to these lanes, at no additional charge. Guest fees apply. During peak usage times, groups may be limited to one lane at a time.

Pistol/Carbine Action Bays

The Hobbs Island Shooting Range has a unique opportunity for all levels of shooting: Pistol/Carbine Action Bays. The Action Bays allow shooters to expand their skill level, by allowing for “real world” use of their firearms. Shooters are encouraged to move and shoot, draw from their holster and practice the skills they may not be able to at other ranges.

While all levels of membership have access to the Action Bays, Basic Level members will be required to pay a $10/hour reservation fee. Guests are allowed to use the bays, with no additional charges or fees, while accompanied by a member. During peak usage times, reservations are highly-recommended.

Steel Park

With over $12,000 in steel targets and training mannequins, the Steel Park offers a way for shooters to truly test their skill levels, practice for upcoming matches, or train for their career in the military, law enforcement, or armed security.

Gold Members have unlimited by-appointment access to the Steel Park at no additional charge. Silver and Basic Members may use the Steel Park for a reservation fee of $20/hour, per member and guest. While the Steel Park is open to all skill levels, it is recommended that members and guests seek training before use.

Range Rules

NEVER fool around or play with guns. Guns are dangerous when they are not handled or used properly. They can easily injure or kill you and those around you. There are no second chances with a gun and the rules for safe gun handling must always be followed to avoid accidents.

  • Know and follow all the rules of the Shooting Range.
  • Listen and do what the Range Master tells you to do. The range master will direct all fire / cease fire actions and enforce all other rules of the range.
  • Always treat the gun as if it is loaded.
  • Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. Downrange would be best!
  • Always keep the gun on safe until you intend to shoot.
  • Always KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER, and outside the trigger guard, until ready to fire or until the command “Commence firing” has been given.
  • Always KEEP THE ACTION OPEN AND FIREARM UNLOADED UNTIL READY TO USE.
  • Never point the gun at anything you don’t intend to destroy.
  • Be sure of the target and what is beyond it.
  • Know the mechanical and handling characteristics of the gun you are using.
  • Always use proper ammunition.
  • Shoot only at authorized targets. Never shoot at water or hard surfaces.
  • Be sure the barrel is clear of obstructions before loading and shooting.
  • Unload, open the action, remove the magazine and ground and / or bench all firearms during a cease fire.
  • Do NOT handle any firearm or stand at the firing line where firearms are present while others are down range.
  • Always keep the muzzle pointed at the backstop, bullet trap, or berm. Never allow the muzzle to point in any direction whereby an inadvertent discharge would allow the escape of a projectile into an outer area.
  • If your gun fails to fire when the trigger is pulled, hold your shooting position for several seconds; then, with the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, carefully unload the gun.
  • Don’t rely on the gun’s safety to keep it from firing.
  • Be aware of your surroundings when handling guns. You don’t want to trip or lose your balance and accidentally point and / or fire the gun at anyone or anything.
  • WEAR EAR AND EYE PROTECTION
